No introduction is ever needed for JBL speakers to anyone who loves high quality music.

I always like the sound quality of JBL Studio monitors since the day I’ve heard them for true to source sound quality, which was JBL studio monitor 4312 but as I get older, I was hooked into mid forward British sound signature but after ten years or so with some Wharfedale, B&W, KEF and Italian Sonus Faber speakers has been in my system.

In 2016 I had a chance to review JBL Studio 530 monitor speakers and I was blown away by the sound quality because it’s sound as good as my favorite monitor KEF LS50 speakers but craziest thing is big difference in the price. JBL Studio 530s should be the benchmark for all small monitor speakers under two thousand dollars.

When I have chance to review JBL Studio 590 speakers I was not expecting these speakers to be this big but I have enough room to house them in my family room (22x15x9 ft) with my reference system.

These are not that bad to handle alone but two person is always better when handling big speakers, overall fit and finished is good but not in the class of SVS towers in same price point, Bi Wireable binding posts seems to be decent, during the set up I find speaker footers are the weakest I’ve ever seen for tower speakers, which is made of plastic and it may break easily if not handled properly.

I break them in for 100+ hours of music and movies, first thing I found was this is the tower speakers that doesn’t required any subwoofer for music listening, which is great for a guy like me to enjoy true full range sound in $2000 price point, it is very hard to come by as many true full range speakers are out of reach for budget conscious music listeners, especially in the today’s market when tiny tower speakers with five inch bass drivers are asking for $2000 or more and their sound is okay but not truly worth the price in my opinion for the performance, Which gives JBL Studio 590 speakers tremendous value, especially when they’re on special, great performance and better yet we got JBL heritage.

After a few days of breaking in I started my serious music listening with Jazz, Soul, Folk, Country, Classical and Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Techno, House etc., one thing I can say for sure is these speaker won’t disappoint me with any genre of music and I was surprised by how easy to place them in the room, I can put them anywhere next to my rig they will sound great but why? my experience with many many tower speakers are very different and difficult, some were very sensitive to placement compared to JBL Studio 590 towers.

Most importantly they do sound great with any music but they will outshine and out performs many other speakers when playing rock, I really love them when playing Jazz as well as my wife likes them with her favorite dance music. Great all around speakers for everyone’s music.

High frequencies from JBL compression drivers are very detail sound with good extension and musical, very dynamic, well extended without any coloration. Which is why I like them so much when playing Dire Straits, Metallica, Guns N’ Roses etc., but It may get bright with poor quality recording.

Midrange is neutral and musical but may not be forward or prominent as many British speakers but it is musically very clean detail sounding midrange, male and female vocals are accurate and natural. Midrange is not recessed, just neutral and accurate,

I don’t think any speakers can sound as good for reproducing drum notes under five grand like JBL Studio series.

Bass performance is best in class and it should be up there with many other speakers in five to ten thousand dollars price range, bass is tight, fast, goes low, scale is big and musical in my system. One of my favorite bass test track from Bela Fleck & The Flecktones "Flight of the Cosmic Hippo" bass lines went deep but it’s not as deep as SVS Ultra Towers but it’s very deep, strong force of lower end acoustic energy is pushing my chest like I was sitting in the front row seat of rock concert.

My advice is before you buy anything, you must try Studio 590s. Highly Recommended !
