As technology improved many products benefit from modern manufacturing technology. HiFi products are among them.
Once upon a time not so long ago, here in The U.S of A. we used to pay very high price for the speakers that can go from 30hz - 20k+ in frequency range because it is consider premium quality for that kind of performance. Even today, some exotic brands still charges five figure or more for that kind of performance but Thanks to internet direct sales business model and far east manufacturing establishments, many companies are offering high quality products for reasonable price, many consumers like us get benefit from new business model and we can enjoy the sound of what we used to get sticker shocked at Hifi stores.
SV Sound is one of the company that sells many high quality Subwoofers and Speakers at affordable price for average consumer, my previously tested SVS Ultra Towers are the proof that we can get good quality sound for reasonable price but how does this little brother SVS Prime towers perform in my system compare to Ultras.
Here is What I find., I would like to say, build quality of Prime towers are impressive as Ultras but very manageable in size and weight, one person can easily handle the Prime Towers and these towers are the most stable small towers I’ve ever had in my system as well.
Highs on Prime towers are natural, accurate, musical and clean sounding at normal listening level (55-75db for me), no major brightness or harshness at all in this level of loudness but if I pushed them to 85db or above it starting get harsh with unwanted brightness but it would still composed, however if I pushed them even louder, sound would collapse and unlistenable at 88db or above. I wonder how could this happened because I pushed Ultras Towers for even much more louder level than Primes and it handles very well and still musical, thats the only weakest point in Prime towers but if you can stay below 85db you will not have any of those unwanted brightness because I enjoy listening to them with my favorite music over and over at my reference level 75-80db of loudness, it’s very musical, it might not have the smoothness or lush sounding signature that I would love to hear but overall sound is transparent and clean with very good sound stage in my system.
Midrange is almost equal or somewhat more balanced than Ultra towers with my reference gear, driver integration is nearly flawless from top to bottom at my reference level of music listening.
Instrument separation is very good as well as tonal accuracy is, it does provide satisfyingly musical tone with overall accurate sound signature, it will play perfectly fine with any kind of music for normal listening level.
Personally, I really like how the Prime towers sound with Jazz, Blues, slower music and modern music, Male and Female vocals are very good, it may not be up there with the best in this frequency range like Wharfedale Diamond towers but still convincingly good and more dynamic sounding than Diamond 240 towers in my system.
One region SVS is always good or better than competition is Bass performance because I have experience with all top of the line speakers from SVS like Ultra Towers, Ultra Bookshelf and this Prime towers in my system and they always comes out head and shoulder above the rivals at given price point or even higher.
This Prime towers are no exception, producing deep, clean and tight musical bass performance like never heard before in this price point, at the very same time I've tested Wharfedale Diamond 240 towers against Prime towers, Prime towers produce better bass performance even with smaller cabinet size. Always enjoy listening to Prime towers for accurate deep bass and tightness of the overall bass performance while I had them in my system, even better than Ascend Acoustic Sierra Towers that I used to have in bass performance.
Personally, I really like the look and size of the speakers, SVS really nailed it in the design department because Prime towers are the perfect size and design for modern living space and quality of the sound it gives, if you listen to music at normal to 85db or so loudness level these Prime towers are very good choice and great performers. Very good tone quality from top to bottom of frequency range, well balanced neutral sound with best in the class bass performance for the price. I would recommend anyone to give them try because SVS return policy and great customer service you have nothing to loose in case if didn’t workout for you.
