SVS Ultra Tower Speaker Review

Price: $1999.98 Pair ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ½

Audio hobbyist like me, SVS Ultra Towers are one of the speakers that I always wanted to hear it from the day it was launched, I use to owned SVS Ultra bookshelf speakers(bought used) for a while and enjoy listening to them in my 2nd system, one major strength I remembered of Ultra bookshelf is, it can play louder and lower than many competing speakers in same price range or some above.

When I got an offer to review SVS Ultra Tower speakers, I was very excited to review them and enjoy my time with them, as many of you may notice I’ve been moving towards bookshelf speakers for my 2 channel music listening lately, last floor standing towers I had in my two channel system was Ascend Acoustics Sierra NrT Towers, which I enjoy my time with them as well.

When I received Ultra Towers at my house, first thing comes to my mind was how I’m going to get them into my listening room by myself but somehow I did manage to get them in safely and set them in my system with excitement, as soon as I finished with the set up I popped in a random CD to hear out of the box performance, and it sounded great right out of the box which is a very good sign for a speaker in my experience.

Review sample pair of piano gloss Ultra Towers are very nice looking and shows quality workmanship all over and hi-end looks in many ways, trapezoidal cabinets with tapered front edges are strikingly different and elegant, I can’t find any imperfection on either speakers by close inspection. Bi-Wire binding posts are very good quality, very sturdy spikes and floor protection discs are included with the speakers, gunmetal gray accented drivers surrounds are very nice touch, I really like the way is look and shaped.

After the set up, I let them run in for 80+ hours of random music and movies, as I’m casually listening to them I realized this is the tower speakers that doesn’t required any subwoofer for music listening, which is a very good thing for a guy like me to enjoy true full range sound in $2000 budget price, which is very hard to come by nowadays as many true full range speakers are out of reach for budget conscious music listeners. Which gives them tremendous value and performance.

When I started my serious listening section I did not use foam port plugs, Ultra Towers are at almost 100 hours of playing time on them, as usual I start with many music that I listen to them all the time and knows each notes by heart, also placement of the instruments are noted as going through my first section, I played Michael Jackson History Book.1(CD ripped FLAC) which sounded really good and dynamic that I kept on going each and every tracks.

My next music was Dire Straits “Brothers In Arms” SACD, sound and scale of music was as big as listening to live concert with very realistic drum notes, bass lines and guitar riffs, Mark Knopfler vocals are dead center as I could see him singing there in front of me. As I went through many music selection, I liked how these SVS Ultra Towers sound at my reference level of 75-85db loudness and how can these imposing tower speakers disappeared with music in my room remains a mystery.

Highs frequencies have good amount of detail, extension and natural tone, very musical sounding without a hint of unwanted sharpness or metallic taste on them, It’s dynamic and extended enough to bring out what artist is created without any coloration. Which is why I like to keep playing loud with some of my favorite tracks from Metallica, Guns N’ Roses etc., as I’m getting more playing time with them I would love and appreciate to hear a little more separation between the instruments to rate them perfect five stars for high frequencies but not a major downside for my taste of music.

Midrange is a very different from what I’m accustomed to hearing from many British designed speakers, midrange is neutral and musical but may not be forward or prominent as many British speakers but it is musically very clean detail midrange, male and female vocals are accurate as it can be without a hint of any coloration. Midrange is not forward or recessed, just neutral and accurate, just need a tad more lushness to rate them perfect on my score board.

As I said in my YouTube review of Ultra Towers, star of the show is Bass performance, lower end response of these speakers are one of the best in class and it should be up there with many other speakers in five to ten thousand dollars price range, bass is tight, fast, goes low and musical as it can be in my system. One of my favorite bass test track from Bela Fleck & The Flecktones "Flight of the Cosmic Hippo" bass lines went deeper than I've ever heard in my system, strong force of lower end acoustic energy is pushing my chest and listening couch like as I was sitting in front row of the live concert.

I got to say SVS Ultra Towers bass response is the best ever bass reproduction I have experience in my system, up there with many higher end speakers I’ve heard at audio shows. Horizontally mounted two 8 inch bass drivers are opposed to each other to cancel unwanted noise and to produce clean bass, which is working perfectly and similar design can be found on much more expensive speakers like KEF Blades.

Most significant trait of SVS Ultra Tower is very well composed and naturally musical sound, even at 110db of loudness, which is very hard to come by in this two thousand dollars price point. In this region SVS Ultras are head and shoulder above competition, let alone coming close to producing lower end high quality bass response and energy like Ultra Towers, Unless I dash out chunk load of money to get something like B&W Diamond 840, KEF R900 etc.,to be able hear or play as loud as these SVS Ultra Tower speakers. Perfect driver integration makes late night low level music listening with my Parasound Halo combo is very musical, SVS Ultra Towers are truly remarkable speakers for the price.

Overall, nothing to unlike about these speakers, I really appreciate them in terms of very high performance ratio and workmanship of the speakers base on the price. SVS Ultra Towers are a must audition speakers for anyone who is looking for a new pair of high quality tower speakers.

Highly Recommended !
