Polk Signature S15 American HiFi Bookshelf Speaker. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
In my mind Polk audio has been one of the best selling household speaker brand for working class in America, always has been affordable good sounding speaker brand that I can’t go wrong with in any price range.
Lately ELAC America has been making hit after hit in affordable HiFi speakers designed by British designer (ex.KEF/TAD/Pioneer) Andrew Jones. Which is a good thing for budget minded people like me but by saying that I was never a fan ELAC speakers(Over Priced IMO) until Andrew Jones designed Debut series came along, which was a big hit for the company (I like ELAC B5/6 Speakers) because of that, it is an eye opener for sleeping American giant like Polk, I truly believe that Polk released this Signature American HiFi series to directly compete with ELAC Debut series in the market.
Overall build quality of the Polk Signature S15 is way above ELAC Debut speakers, quality of Polk cabinetry is even better than higher priced Dali Zensor series speakers that I reviewed a few months ago.
I’m dead serious, Polk Signature S15 cabinets doesn’t make any vibration like ELAC B5/6 speakers, build quality is the best in class under $500 bookshelf speakers, I don’t think there’re any speakers in the price range is as good as S15 in fit and finish, closest I can think is Monitor Audio Bronze 2 & B&W 685 S2 speakers from higher price range in terms of build quality.
Because of cabinet is very solid, throughly well thought out design with quality components for $229 sticker price is more than reasonable. Patented design rear firing power port is new unique feature to have.
Out of the box sound is ok, nothing significant to point out.
After 50+ hours of playing time I sit down and started serious listening section, started off with Techno because my wife like the music and move on to all other music genre when I’m alone, first thing come to me was how effortless and clean this speaker can sound, this is the perfect speaker for the people with modern multi channel receivers to create high quality home theatre sound.
Highs are ok, tonally not as accurate as I’m used to, cymbals and high hats are a little thin but not bright in anyway, that’s real good thing because it is a very detail sounding speaker yet smooth and still musical up to 90db+ without any distortion.
Midrange is good but less pronounce than my mini monitor reference KEF LS50 speakers, still very musical to listen to, female and male vocals performance is good, Kick drums, side drums and snare drum strikes are pretty accurate, only down side for me is I would love to hear a little more weight in each note to enjoy my music that I'm accustomed to, may be I set my expectation too high for such a budget speaker.
Bass is nice, define and well pronounce but I would like to hear a little tighter bass but still very much enjoyable, overall it may sound like smily face shape sound signature with some music in 2 channel only system.
I enjoy my experience with Polk Signature S15, benefit from newly design "powerport" may be more noticeable on bigger speakers in the series.
To give Polk Signature S15 solid five stars I need more pronounce weight from lower midrange to higher frequencies since it's already have smooth effortless sound with very good instrument separation to make them almost perfect budget mini monitor speakers.
I would recommend to use them in the smaller space or even as desktop monitors, which I tried and really like them in near field listening.
This is a good speaker for anyone who would appreciate clean, detail and effortless sound, easy to match with many amp/receivers thanks to 88db sensitivity rating. This speaker that can’t go wrong in any set up from full blown HT to desktop, I would suggest to add a sub and crossover them at 80db for more musical pleasure and filling the gap in between.
